One Perfect Day in Genova: Hour by Hour, No Filler

If we had one day in Genova — one single day, starting from the apartment — this is exactly how we would use it.

7:00am — Coffee and Focaccia

Espresso at the bar two streets over. Standing, quickly, the way it's meant to be done. Then to the panificio on Via San Vincenzo for focaccia, still warm. Eat it walking. This is the correct way.

8:00am — The Caruggi Before Anyone Else

The old town in the early morning is a different city. Shopkeepers raising shutters. The sound of a delivery cart on stone. Light coming down in narrow strips between buildings that have been standing since the 13th century. Walk without a map. Turn toward whatever looks interesting.

9:30am — Mercato Orientale

The covered market opens fully by 9am. Buy nothing if you don't need to. Walk through slowly. Look at what Genova eats. Talk to someone if the opportunity presents itself. Leave knowing the city slightly better.

11:00am — Castelletto

Take the ascensore from Piazza del Portello up to the Spianata di Castelletto. Stand there for as long as it takes. The whole city below you. The sea beyond it. No ticket, no queue.

1:00pm — Trattoria da Maria

Cash only. Whatever's on the board. Sit at a communal table. Eat slowly. This is the best value lunch in the city and has been for decades.

3:00pm — Boccadasse

Walk or take the bus east to the fishing village. Sit on the rocks. Read if you have something to read. Swim if the season allows. Buy a gelato from the place on the corner and accept that it will be excellent.

6:30pm — Aperitivo

Piazza delle Erbe. Whichever bar has a table. Local wine, Ligurian snacks, the city changing its pace around you. Stay until it gets dark.

That's one day. Most guests who follow something close to this ask the next morning if they can extend their stay. Book directly at novacancygenova.com.
